At the time of writing this, it will almost have been two years since this trip. Let's see if the recall is sharp. But, on a real tip, two years!!
It's Christmas in Spain. Catholic country, but we still decide to take a trip somewhere. Segovia, in particular. We're not sure if anything's open, but my mom and stepdad are down to go, same with my brother and his GF, so away we go.
The town is old. That was part of the charm. It's a smallish Spanish town, and the coldness in December coupled with the empty streets gave it a real.. Pan's Labyrinth feel. We walk into town and see this amazing old aqueduct that is just built into the city. I think there was some biking competition in which people start upon on a hill from one side of the aqueduct, and zoom down, make a left, and are not allowed to pedal. Based on momentum, they measure how far they can go. It's really bizarre. Is that.. culture? Maybe I'm just being offensive now. Haha, but really, it was weird but, that can be said about deep fried Twinkies too. There are nice abuelas (grandmothers) handing out hot chocolate. Perfect for the weather.
We climb up some walls, and keep walking. There are cute gems along the way. We stop by in a cafe and, to my surprise, it begins snowing! First time experiencing falling snow on Christmas. Was a great experience, stuck and huddled in that cafe watching snow.
We continue on and end up seeing a huge cathedral and, of course, the main Segovia Castle. Europeans really love their architecture.
Prairie style,Anyway, as it was only a day trip, and we travel slower in a group, this is all we got to see. Still, the city itself is breathtaking, worth a weekend trip, and it's so quintessentially Spanish at the core. If you couldn't tell, we were freezing. All of this is pretty inland Spain, and so the temperatures get extreme. See ya Segovia, we'll freeze our asses back in Madrid.
