BEEN ALREADY

Michinoku Trail: a coastal and urban walk in the Tohoku region of Japan's main island.

I was 21 during the 2011 Sendai Earthquake. I recall a friend cancelling her study abroad trip to Japan because of the fear around radiation. Since then, the government has built a trail as a time capsule in memorium to the devastation the earthquake caused. I decided to hike bits and pieces with a friend.

To the best of my ability, I have written the entries as I walked in real time. Pre-hike, I'm feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. Also a bit of freedom. I am sure that will change as the days pass.

Post-hike note: amazing, absolutely amazing. Beautiful coastline and even more beautiful (and tragic) history.

FYI, green marker is start/finish; blue markers are rest stops, and yellow markers are sites along the way.
